October 2021 - "National Cipher Challenge" is back. Register to take part. Can we have even better results this time? Last year six students in the final round and the second place in the world for Lukas Chladek! We will certainly try!!!
September 2021 - Programming and Robotics Club starts again. The students will program Lego EV3 robots, Micro bits, arduino boards etc.. On the 25th of May 2022 we are hoping to host National WRO Lego Competition. Fingers crossed!
January 2021 - for the fifth year Park Lane are involved with the "National Cipher Challenge" organised by the University of Southampton. The response from our students last year has been great, with one student, Lukas Chladek finish second in the world. We are hoping to be at least equally successful this year again!
Microbits
The computer science department has bought a set of fully programable mini computers that will be used with year 7 and year 8 students. Students will create a range of projects making animations, using sensors, making small robots etc..
In addition to Raspberry Pi we are also using MicroBit computers to show club members more physical computing! MicroBit is fully programmable using a variety of languages such as Python or Java Script. Our Computer Club has also used Ozobot robots that can be programmed using a Blockly language. Through exploration, play and programming a lot is being learned. More information about the Raspberry Pi can be found on their foundation page or visit the MicroBit Foundation to find out more.
3D printing (additive printing) has arrived at school! January brought a late Christmas present - Prusa Research's latest 3D printer model. It'll take some time to set up because it has to be built first. This is where our students come into the equation. What can be better than learning about 3D Printing after having put a printer together and calibrated it for optimal performance. This promises to be experiential learning, an immersive one as well and potentially character building given the challenge of assembling the printer before use. In addition Park Lane International School is amongst the first to owe a 3D printer and proud to have supported Prusa Research which is proving to be a world-beating product - a Czech product!
